Sea Born FX22 SS
Capt. Ted Lund
From the Gulf Bay of Texas all the way to the New England Coast, the bay boat market is one of the fastest growing segments in today’s marine marketplace. Boaters on the hunt for a new ride definitely want to check out the Sea Born FX22 SS, the latest offering from Composite Research. The Blackshear, Georgia-based manufacturer also custom creates the popular Spyder and Sundance lines under its boatbuilding umbrella. The innovative, new FX22 SS is making a splash in its world debut in the popular bay boat frontier of Houston, Texas.
The FX22 SS features a state-of-the-art, double-stepped hull design, providing unparalleled fuel-efficiency and performance in the 22-foot class of bay boats. The unique design — featuring 2 full-width steps — ventilates the running surface of the boat reducing the wet drag and, improves the boats fuel efficiency by 20-percent.
But the company’s groundbreaking innovations don’t stop there.
Using input from their extensive dealer network, Sea Born has managed to increase the useable area on the deck offering plenty of maneuverability for anglers and secure storage for rods, reels, gear and more. The FX22 SS also features more deck space than any other bay boat in its class thanks to redesigned gunwales and integrated rod holders allowing for toe room around the entire cockpit.
One of the most exciting highlights is Sea Born’s own proprietary built in cooler system, called Sea Freeze. Conveniently located in the center of the forward casting platform, the huge 84-quart Sea Freeze will hold ice for days and rival any of the high-end aftermarket coolers out there. The unique Sea Freeze cooler is flanked on either side by locking rod storage for plenty of rigged outfits. Moving forward on the bow casting platform, serious anglers and family boaters will enjoy the cavernous dry storage locker that offers plenty of room for all your fishing and family valuables. The boat also boasts an integrated anchor hatch and all lids are compression molded for a smooth finish both sides.
Plenty of thought went into rigging the FX22, a hallmark of all the company’s product lines. Boat owners are provided easy access on all fronts; need to access any of the rigging or electronics in the console? No problem. A large waterproof hatch provides comfortable access from behind the console seatback cushion. Batteries and bilge pumps are also easily accessible in the aft hatches which double as comfortable seating.
Another welcome innovation is Sea Born’s unique hinging system for aft jump seats and deck hatches; the entire seat and hatch lift backwards as a single unit, making for easy access to compartments while preventing damage to the hinges and seats.
The SS version of the boat features a 35-quart plumbed live well in the center of the rear casting platform, as well as a 32-quart insulated cooler under the console seat and an aft port 80-quart insulated fish box.
Top-notch flush mounted deck hardware, stainless steel cup holders, hydraulic steering and LED lighting round out the standard package. In addition, each boat comes standard with wiring harness and plugs for trolling motors. A Tournament Edition featuring additional live well space and other fishing enhancements is also available.
Anglers have a choice of reliable four-stroke power from Yamaha and Mercury, with fully-rigged and ready to fish models of the FX22 SS starting at $34,900.
